The Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO) of Bohol ignited the path to enhanced sports excellence with the launch of its first-ever refresher courses in a two-day training in Tagbilaran City.
Bringing together coaches, referees, and technical officials, the event was held at 717 Cesar’s Place on August 17-18, under the Harnessing New and Advanced Sports Skills (HANAS) Program.
The program aims to localize and align sports development programming with the Philippines Sports Commission (PSC) on sports promotion awareness and sports accessibility.
The inaugural training course is centered around boxing and conducted by certified trainers and coaches from the PSC and the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP).
The activity is also collaboratively supported by the boxing community partners participating in the Building Governance for Sports Advancement for Youth (BUGSAY) Program.
BUGSAY serves as a complementary sports development initiative of the PYDO that focuses on enabling private sector partnership and collaboration.
A total of fifty (50) boxing coaches, referees, and judges attended the two-day event, with the second-day opening with a recapitulation game.
Participants shared their learning of the first-day sessions that were handled by Mr. Nonie Lopez and Mr. Roel Velasco of PSC.
Lopez is the Visayas Cluster Head for the Grassroots Program of the PSC, while Velasco is a PSC National Coach and 1992 Barcelona Olympics Boxing Bronze Medalist.
Moreover, the Philippine Councilors League Bohol Chapter President and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ex-Officio Board Member Nick Besas gave his solidarity message and extended his gratitude to the participants, trainers, and staff for the time and effort in making the training possible.
Besas likewise assured everyone of the support of Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado and Vice Governor Tita Virtudazo Baja for the sports programs of the PYDO. He expressed confidence that with the refresher course, more opportunities will come to Bohol for boxing.
Meanwhile, PYDO rolled out the Second Leg of the Abante Grassroots Sports Clinic B “Caravan for Advanced Learning – Football Development” in Alicia, with 55 participants who are school kids aged 10-17 years old.
The event was supported by the Municipality of Alicia headed by Mayor Victoriano Torres lll, Sports Coordinator Marlino Butcon Jr., and the Alicia Football Club.
