Strengthening community-based organizations remains a priority of the Provincial Government of Bohol as it continues to promote inclusive economic growth and empower local communities through cooperative development.
The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, conducted a Cooperative Pre-Registration Seminar for 10 People’s Organizations (POs) on June 4, 2026, at Panda Tea Garden Suites.
Through the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO), and in partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Extension Office–Bohol, the seminar provided participants with essential knowledge on cooperativism, cooperative management, financial and operational processes, and the legal requirements for registration.
It gathered representatives from 10 People’s Organizations seeking to become registered cooperatives.
These included the Antequera Solo Parent Workers’ Association, Paril Cambitoon Irrigators Association Inc., Talibon Women Workers Association (TAWWA), Kaandalis-Danao Irrigators’ Association, Talibon Solo Parent Homeworkers Association, Bugog Sur Women’s Association for Development, Cabay-angan Rizal Coop, Mabini Solo Parent Association, Barangay Cansungay Association, and La Victoria Farmers Association.
Serving as resource speaker was Jim Ryan Badayos of CDA-Bohol. He discussed the background and mandate of the Cooperative Development Authority, the concepts and principles of cooperativism, types of cooperatives, organizational structure and management, financial and operational processes, and the legal requirements for cooperative registration.
In her opening message, PCDO Head Maricar Fuentes emphasized that the pre-registration seminar is a mandatory requirement for community-based organizations intending to register as cooperatives.
She encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunity to learn and ask about the necessary processes and responsibilities involved in cooperative management.
For the Mabini Solo Parent Association, the seminar marked a significant step toward formalizing their organization.
Association President Doresa Boñol said that securing registration with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) would create more opportunities for growth and development for their association and its members.
“Eager jud mi nga maka-establish na gyud og cooperative,” Boñol shared, expressing the group’s strong commitment to becoming a registered cooperative.
Meanwhile, Venecia Añora of the Paril Cambitoon Irrigators Association said their group joined the seminar to pursue CDA registration and strengthen their organization. She emphasized the importance of responsible leadership and trustworthy cooperative officers in ensuring the success of a cooperative.
As the country’s first UNESCO Global Geopark, Bohol continues to promote inclusive and sustainable development by strengthening community-based organizations.
With more than 1,000 People’s Organizations across the province, initiatives such as the Cooperative Pre-Registration Seminar help empower local groups, expand economic opportunities, and foster community-driven growth. (PIMO/MAPI)
