The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, through the Bohol Center for Culture and Arts Development (BCCAD), officially opened the Flores de Mayo Visual Arts Exhibit at the Capitol Lobby on May 28, highlighting the province’s continuing support for Boholano artists and cultural expression.
The exhibit, which runs until June, brings together a diverse collection of works from local visual artists, transforming the Capitol Lobby into a space of creativity, reflection, and cultural pride of the Bohol Island Geopark.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Board Member Lawrence Xavier Ancla, together with BCCAD OIC Emerson Pinos and artist Glenn Lumantao, and joined by participating Boholano artists.
In his welcome address, Board Member Ancla, Chairperson of the Committee on Culture and the Arts, emphasized the Capitol’s sustained commitment to strengthening the local arts sector. He underscored that the PGBh continues to promote programs that empower and uplift Boholano artists, including financial support for competitions and other creative endeavors.
Artist Glenn Lumantao, in his statement of purpose, reflected on the deeper meaning of artistic expression, emphasizing how artists are remembered through their work and the stories they choose to tell.
Meanwhile, BCCAD OIC Emerson Pinos expressed gratitude to the participating artists, noting that art serves as a powerful medium in preserving stories, inspiring future generations, and strengthening cultural identity.
The exhibit features works from the following Boholano artists: Maica Alison Gementiza Lumiguid, Jasmin Reyes, Sylvia Conser, Angelie Acol-Acol Lagura, Abigail Therese Fostanes, Dianice Bacule, Zoe Feliz Matias, Veronica Pocot Galido, Pedro Onco, Glenn Lumantao, James Permisa Lumagod, Joycelin Sofia Olaivar, Ymmylyn Ranara Olaivar, Ruel Bernaldez II, Ronn Pios, Benjo Mañego, Jia Olaivar, Riane Joy Miculob, Meritxell Llorens, Princess Nadine Bala-bat, Feliz Louren Paderog, Victor Kim Naquila, Lea Luminarias, Norr Lii Na, Teo Palban, Daphne LG, Rienon Jamisola Añora, Anna Marie Bonayog, Anne Marie Pergamino, and Rou Se.
The Flores de Mayo Visual Arts Exhibit underscores the PGBh’s ongoing efforts to provide platforms for local artists to showcase their talent and enrich Bohol’s cultural landscape.
This initiative aligns with the Capitol’s Strategic Change Agenda, especially in Cultural Heritage, and will support efforts to preserve, promote, and develop Boholano arts and cultural identity through sustained institutional support and community engagement. (PIMO/JFP)
