Robinsons Hotels and Resorts (RHR), the hospitality arm of Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), officially broke ground for Grand Summit Bohol on May 20, 2026, in Doljo, Panglao, marking a significant milestone in Bohol’s growing tourism and hospitality industry.
The ceremony gathered officials from the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), the Municipality of Panglao, and executives from RLC and RHR, highlighting a strengthened partnership between government and the private sector toward sustainable tourism and economic development.
Governor Aris Aumentado emphasized Bohol’s strengths as a premier tourism and investment destination, citing its natural wonders, cultural heritage, and the resilience of the Boholano people.
“We are home to natural wonders that bring awe to tourists from far and wide, a rich cultural and artistic heritage that showcases the blending of indigenous roots and colonial influences, nurtured by our harmonious relationship with nature, a vibrant economy that continues to grow and expand, and, most importantly, the Boholano people who give life to our island province and shape our shared future,” Aumentado stated.
Aumentado described the project as a strong vote of confidence in Bohol’s tourism sector and readiness to accommodate world-class developments.
“This development is a strong voice of confidence in our local tourism sector and in Bohol’s readiness to welcome new players who can elevate and enhance our offerings. Today’s groundbreaking also translates to more jobs, added value for Panglao and Bohol, and increased economic activity for our communities,” he added.
Panglao Mayor Edgardo Arcay likewise welcomed the investment, describing it as another milestone for progress and development in the municipality.
“This investment will create opportunities, generate jobs, strengthen local businesses, and improve vendor services as Panglao continues to thrive as a prime tourist destination,” Arcay said.
He also underscored the importance of balancing development with environmental protection.
“Join us in preserving the seas, the reefs, and our environment for future generations. Development and environmental protection must go hand in hand.”
RHR Senior Vice President Barun Jolly described the groundbreaking as the start of a new chapter for Bohol’s hospitality industry.
He highlighted the province’s internationally recognized attractions, including the Chocolate Hills, pristine shores, and renowned snorkeling destinations, while expressing confidence that Bohol will also become known for delivering heartfelt Filipino hospitality through developments such as Grand Summit Bohol.
Jolly further emphasized the company’s vision of blending international hospitality standards with Bohol’s local identity and tourism strengths.
“The mission is to bridge the gap between global standards and local treasures. This is not just a business decision but also a commitment to nation-building by creating more employment opportunities, attracting more tourists, and delivering world-class experiences,” Jolly concluded.
Meanwhile, RLC President and CEO Mybelle Aragon-GoBio emphasized that the development of Grand Summit Bohol aligns with the Department of Tourism’s vision of diversifying travel experiences in the Philippines.
She underscored the company’s commitment not only to building an upscale resort but also to investing in the local community by creating meaningful employment opportunities and supporting small businesses in the province.
She further noted that by engaging local suppliers and contributing to the local economy, the project aims to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity for the people of Bohol.
The officials of RHR also recognized Bohol’s distinction as the Philippines’ first and only UNESCO Global Geopark as one of the factors that strengthened their confidence in investing in the province.
They noted that Bohol’s internationally recognized commitment to environmental preservation, sustainable tourism, and cultural heritage aligns with the company’s vision of developing destinations that balance progress with responsible stewardship.
As part of the ceremony’s emphasis on sustainability and environmental stewardship, Governor Aumentado, Mayor Arcay, former JG Summit Holdings CEO James Go, and officials from RLC and RHR participated in the ceremonial planting of a Molave tree, followed by the laying of a time capsule.
Robinsons Hotels and Resorts also extended support to Doljo Elementary School through a ₱10,000 donation intended for school building initiatives.
In her acceptance speech, Doljo Elementary School Principal Alpia Palaca expressed gratitude for the company’s generosity and commitment to education.
“Your support is more than a financial contribution. It is a symbol of hope. It is a powerful reminder that there are organizations willing to invest not only in buildings and businesses, but also in people, in education, and in the future of our youth,” Palaca said.
“Today, you are not only helping our school. You are helping build future leaders, innovators, and responsible citizens who will someday give back to society in meaningful ways,” she added.
Closing the event, Robinsons Hotels and Resorts Vice President Ann Yap expressed excitement over bringing the Grand Summit brand to Panglao.
“This project is not only about concrete and steel. It is being built with passion, vision, and partnership. It represents opportunities for the community, growth for our tourism sector, and a commitment to honoring the natural beauty and spirit of this remarkable island,” Yap stated.
Also present during the event were Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte, Bohol Provincial Tourism Office (BPTO) Head Joanne Pinat, Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (BEDIPO) Head Maria Fe Dominise, and Provincial Information and Media Office (PIMO) Administrative Officer V Marc Anthony Pernia, representing the PGBh’s continued support for tourism and investment initiatives.
Grand Summit Bohol is envisioned as an upscale hospitality destination that will combine leisure, family stays, business gatherings, and destination events. The hotel will feature over 200 guest rooms and suites, all designed with balconies and views of either the ocean or pool.
The property will also include dining outlets, a grand ballroom, meeting rooms, wellness and family amenities, and guest conveniences such as self-check-in kiosks. Its architecture will feature an ocean wave-inspired façade integrated with solar power and smart technology systems.
The development forms part of Robinsons Hotels and Resorts’ broader expansion strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in major tourism destinations while supporting both leisure and business travel markets across the Philippines.
The groundbreaking ceremony also reflected the strong collaborative partnership between RLC, RHR, and the PGBh in advancing sustainable tourism, economic growth, and investment opportunities as envisioned in the Strategic Governance Roadmap.
Through continued cooperation between the private sector and the local government, the project is expected to further elevate Bohol’s position as a premier tourism destination and contribute to long-term progress for the Boholano community. (PIMO/RJG)
