Feb 17, 2026
Bohol, a UNESCO Global Geopark, is future-forward in the province’s arts and culture through a multi-sectoral platform, lecture, and forum.

This was after the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, hosted “Quo Vadis: Asa Kita Padulong?” Conference held February 17, 2026, at the Capitol.

The ‘Set 1’ conference, attended by various sectors, raised discussion on honoring Bohol’s heritage while embracing creativity and technology, intersecting in shaping Bohol’s future.

Part of the international conference series organized by the Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD) led by OIC Emerson Pinos, the event featured two international speakers, namely Dr. Gigi Carunungan and David Berkowitz.

In her lecture, Dr. Carunungan, a creative educator and storyteller, presented on the power of the arts and culture in teaching Mathematics and the Sciences.

A visionary leader, educator, author, and curriculum innovator, Dr. Carunungan shared how she established constructivist schools in Silicon Valley, emphasizing imagination and storytelling as an efficient pedagogy.

“What’s difficult is how to design the curriculum,” she said.

She also emphasized that the constructivist approach brings back education to the humanness of each learner.

“You have to make them excited. You have to make them prepared,” she underscored, signifying the role of facilitators in applying the constructivist approach in teaching that goes beyond memorization.

At the end of her discussion, Carunungan expounded that the constructivist approach can also be applied in advanced Science and Mathematics subjects through storytelling.

Berkowitz, a global technology leader, presented the challenge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Arts, Education, Industry, and Social Development.

He shared his experience as a director of Research Software Engineering and as an Agile Coach at the Toyota Research Institute (TRI).

He also presented how TRI amplifies human capability through AI.

“AI doesn’t replace expertise; it amplifies it,” Berkowitz emphasized.

He also shared his recommended AI apps, including Claude, Midjourney, Eleven Labs, LTX Studio, Nano Banana, and the popular apps Gemini and ChatGPT.

‘It doesn’t mean that AI will take your job. AI is just another tool to help you.”

Berkowitz’s lecture concluded with an AI prompt demonstration and a forum where participants were able to raise their questions.

“Let us not fear the use of these tools. Let us use these tools wisely to enhance learning, service delivery, and our decision-making,” First District Board Member Lucille Lagunay said in her closing remarks.

Present during the event were representatives from various sectors, including education, arts and culture, NGOs, and government agencies.

Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage Council Chairman Argeo Melisimo welcomed the participants, while CCAD Advisor Dr. Lugardo Labad delivered the rationale.

Also present were Bohol Provincial Tourism Office OIC Joanne Pinat and Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office Head Jovencia Ganub.

Through the conference, Bohol advanced artistic development and cultural stewardship, aligned with PGBh’s Strategic Governance Roadmap on sustainable growth, a priority in the province—a UNESCO Global Geopark. (𝐏𝐈𝐌𝐎/𝐉𝐒𝐒)
