Capitol Strengthens Preparedness Ahead of Tropical Depression Basyang
Feb 5, 2026

The Provincial Government of Bohol, led by Governor Aris Aumentado, convened a meeting on the afternoon of February 4, 2026, at the Office of the Governor in preparation for the possible impacts of Tropical Depression Basyang, particularly in coastal and low-lying areas.

Governor Aumentado led the coordination meeting with various government agencies, including the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Coast Guard Station Western Bohol (CGS WB), Department of Health (DOH), Red Cross Bohol, TaRSIER 117, and other line agencies, to discuss contingency measures and emergency preparedness plans.

As part of the preparedness efforts, the Provincial Government conducted a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) to identify areas most vulnerable to flooding, landslides, and storm surges. The assessment guided the prepositioning of evacuation centers, rescue teams, and relief goods, as well as the implementation of precautionary measures to minimize the potential impacts of the storm.

According to PAGASA Bohol representative Leonard Samar, the latest forecast shows that the center or rainbands of Tropical Storm Basyang may affect the municipality of Dauis on Friday. In response, evacuation centers, rescue teams, and relief goods have been strategically positioned for immediate deployment if necessary.

As a precautionary measure, Governor Aumentado ordered the suspension of classes at all levels, both public and private, on Thursday and Friday based on DepEd Order No. 22-2024. All outdoor activities across the province are also cancelled to ensure public safety amid the expected adverse weather conditions.

“Atong likayan ang mga hulga para sa atong mga kabataan ug sa mga estudyante nga mahilayo sa mga disgrasya. Grabe ang uwan, so ang likayan ang mga flooding ug landslide, mao nga gi-cancel nato ang klase. Hinaot ko nga subaybayan nato ang dagan sa panahon. I hope nga safety ang tanan. Sa atong pagpahibaw ug pagpangandam, importante gayod aron malikayan ang disgrasya sa atong pamilya,” Aumentado emphasized.

Local government units were directed to intensify weather monitoring and conduct preemptive evacuations in areas identified as vulnerable to flooding and landslides.

Governor Aumentado urged the public to remain alert, follow advisories from local authorities, and avoid unnecessary travel, especially at sea and in high-risk areas.

The Provincial Government of Bohol continues to closely coordinate with PAGASA and other concerned agencies to provide timely and accurate updates on the movement of Tropical Storm Basyang. (PIMO/MFM)
